The actual prose of Magomed Kudayev: from facts to artistic reality

This article is the first to provide a scientific analysis of the work of Magomed Khasanovich Kudayev (born in 1933), a Balkarian writer and short story master, whose first book was published in 1995, despite the fact that he had been actively publishing in periodicals and collective anthologies since the 1970s. The lyrical hero of his works always tries to live according to the laws of the Karachay-Balkar people – tau adet (a set of moral imperatives), and he is in search of truth and moral values in a changing world. It encompasses the years of deportation, return to the homeland, and the challenges of the second half of the 20th century, which are depicted in the author's novels and short stories in a realistic and emotional manner. However, due to subjective circumstances, M. Kudayev's work has not received much attention in literary studies. The article highlights the relevance of the author's prose, as its core ideas reflect the moral principles and enduring values of the people.
